This year's event is shaping up to be extremely fun with more focus on real world job skills but at the same time leaving room for different strategies to see if you can top other schools and not only that - we can even compare the students team scores to real world Avnet Integration technician scores so it should be a really fun day.
Here are some of the latest questions from students:
#1) What type of machine screws will be used for the various parts and chassis? slotted, phillips, or other?
ANSWER: Standard PC - Phillips style screws - no torx or any other style will be used. Avnet will provide all screws and you are not allowed to bring your own or change the screws out.
#2) Are we allowed to remove components of the OS in order to reduce the loading tables of the fat and registry to give a pinch more speed to the system?
ANSWER: Yes - you are allowed to do anything you like to the O/S with one exception - reload - you are not allowed to reload the O/S. The systems will have a base loaded O/S with base drivers that you can modify and do anything you like except reload from scratch. If you damage the registry and the system will not boot and you are unable to repair the registery then you will receive a zero score.
#3) Will our internet resources be limited to the event computers themselves or will there be different computes available?
ANSWER: The Tuning systems will have internet access. Outside of that each team is allowed to bring one laptop if they wish. Teams are also allowed to bring drivers, programs, manuals, etc on CD, DVD or USB memory sticks.
