Scholarships may be redeemed one of two ways. Current students will have a check cut directly to their academic institution. They will need to check with their school to see who the check needs to be made out to and where it needs to be sent. Graduating seniors can put their scholarship money toward continuing education. They will need to identify not more than three training opportunities and gather the relevant contact information regarding where and to whom they should be sent. All scholarship monies are paid through the Arizona Technology Council. Winning students will receive information on how to redeem their scholarship.
Each competitive event form specifies a maximum number of teams the venue and technical equipment can support. It also specifies an allotment of slots per college. The process works like this: slots are reserved for all interested colleges/faculty at the rate specified in the competitive event form. Each college/faculty sponsor is able to register a primary team and waitlist a second team. After all interest and registration is finalized, any remaining open slots are filled with waitlisted teams.
Yes. For the onsite competitive events, at least one team member must be registered with an Arizona college and present on game day in order for the team to participate in the onsite competitive events.
The number varies by game. Details can be found on individual game pages.
The number of slots is limited and varies by game. One team per college per game may be registered on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED basis. Each student may only participate on one team for a particular game. So, if someone was enrolled at MCC and ASU, they could only be on one team in one particular game. They could, however, participate on another team as a student of another school in another game -- as long as the timing works for them to actively participate in both games.
Four. One team could participate from each of ASU's four campuses.
Participating faculty have the opportunity to integrate real-world experience within current or future curriculum, as well as coach students and showcase the knowledge gained in the classroom. From a professional development perspective, they can gain recognition for successful teaching practices.
Winning students receive scholarships. In addition, this is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge, experience, and competency in their selected fields of study. Additionally, they can connect with local employers and showcase their talents/abilities. Thousands of students will graduate and apply for the same jobs. However, the individuals who secure the best jobs have one thing in common – experience outside of the classroom.

Executives from Avnet and the Center for Workforce Development at the Maricopa Community Colleges were chatting at a community event. Avnet realized that the community colleges are an underserved market.
Lots of companies focus on K-12 and the universities also get lots of corporate attention. We wanted to create a program that reached this underserved market but also helped prepare the students for jobs. This is a great opportunity for doing community outreach but it also helps us, and other high tech companies, by creating a more educated workforce to hire.
